The Brief
Investigate the advantages of lighting the access platform in various environmental conditions to help improve safety and user interface.
The lighting should be intelligent and illuminate the machine.
Parts and features of the cherry picker to take into account include:
- The control panel
- The engine
- The extending arm
- The cage
- The chassis
- Flashing light for alerting other workers and surroundings
- The interior of the body for repairs to be done
The Solution
The team designed a system with colour changing LEDs to light the cage controls, the floor of the cage and the footswitch, and inside the canopies for the base controls and easier maintenance. This allowed users to easily see all areas they needed to operate the machine. The LEDs would light up red if there cage overload warning was triggered and yellow if there were any hazards identified.
