The Brief
This year’s task is to design and develop a tilting wheel force measurement system suitable for use with Niftylift’s entire product range, for use in stability tilt testing. The wheel force measurement system should be capable of reporting individual wheel loads, up to a maximum load of 12 tonnes, and the whole machine weight, up to a maximum of 20 tonnes.
The Solution
The students designed a modular wheel force measuring system capable of accurately measuring the wheel loads of a machine up to 40 tonnes in weight, which would work with the footprint of any machine Nifty produce and any future machines with larger footprints.
A ¼ scale prototype was produced for testing and to be shown at the Industrial Cadets graduation day. At the graduation day. They presented to a panel of assessors and answered questions in detail about their report and project at their display stand, and were commended for the quality of their answers.
As well as graduating as Gold level Industrial cadets, the team was awarded the Contribution to Business award. This is presented to the team whose project is judged by the assessors to have the biggest potential impact on the business.
