‘Nifty’ is a sub-adult female about a year old, so would only recently have left the care of her mother and when found was suffering from several ailments that were making her feel very unwell.
It was with the help of their new Nifty 120T that volunteers from Port Stephens Koalas were able to rescue the young animal from bushland on the outskirts of an area recently affected by bushfire.
The Nifty 120T was kindly donated to the sanctuary by John King and his team at Nifty Australia and is ideal for this type of work as it is easy to transport and can operate quietly on electric power. The Nifty 120T enables trained volunteers to pluck sick or injured animals from trees without adding unnecessary stress to the animals, but will also be used for food collection and ‘releases’ back into the wild.
‘Nifty’s official full name is ‘Nifty Latty’ as she was found adjacent to the ‘Latitude One’ retirement complex in the Port Stephens area and it was thanks to the watchfulness of residents that ‘Nifty’ was found!
Little ‘Nifty’ is getting lots of TLC as she receives treatment for her ailments and is now well on her way to recovery. She is being fed lots of lush leaves and her favourite is melaleuca, which is commonly known as paperbark.

It could be a few months before little ‘Nifty’ gets back to the bush where she belongs and the sanctuary volunteers have said that they will definitely be using the donated Nifty 120T in her release.
