Undergraduate Quality Engineer
1 Overview
The Undergraduate Quality Engineer is responsible for understanding and improving Niftylift product quality. The team member will work with internal and external (vendors) manufacturing processes throughout the supply chain to ensure that they consistently produce quality product, through no fault forwards.
2 Relationships
Responsible to: Quality Manager
Liaison with: Liaison with: Production Manager, Section Managers, Team Leaders, Manufacturing Technicians, Logistics / Controllers, Commodity Managers, Production Engineers, Suppliers and Customers.
3 Main tasks
· Provide support to assigned Products to control in-process quality documents, structure how inspect / pass – fail (Q.D.’ s) quality documents, pre delivery inspection / hot testing documents. Promoting a culture of No Fault Forward;
· Determine the root cause of defects and action preventative improvement tasks to support stakeholder actions, including the promotion, support and drive towards utilisation of practical problem solving / 8D methods;
· Updating and maintenance of internal and external quality information. Monitor & audit in-process quality control systems to ensure accuracy of data collection and early response to process deviation from AQL’s (Acceptable Quality Limits);
· Understand and assist in the development of Quality Control Procedures; SPC, X-Bar/R charts and Quality Control Plans, monitor and audit accuracy of data and completed documents.
· Conduct inspection of product parts to drawing specification to ensure effective containment of non-conforming parts, including ISIR, 1st off Inspection for new and updated components.
· Understand and provide support in calibration of production tooling;
· Attend and support allocated stakeholder meetings, providing secure preventative actions to external and internal quality related concerns, plus drive and support continuous improvement activities.
· Support in performing supplier quality audits and supplier development / continuous improvement activities. Allowing the supply base to achieve the expected quality of supply and improve their performance.
· Investigate supplier component failures, arrange supplier diagnostics, review suppliers processes and manufacturing procedures, negotiate liability with supplier and ensure they implement defined and approved preventative actions.
· Learn, understand and support ISO 9001:2015 quality management system.
· Learn, understand and support the Niftylift Warranty system.
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role and the organisation’s overall business objectives, this may include the training and mentoring of colleagues.
4 Qualifications & experience
· Studying towards a relevant Engineering degree
· Computer literate –working knowledge of all Microsoft Office packages: Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook.
· Knowledge of manufacturing practices, fabrications, hydraulics, electrics
· Knowledge of 8D problem solving
· Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015)
· Ability to read & understand engineering manufacturing drawings.
· Working knowledge of environment management systems
Desirable:
· Competent in technical report writing, or willing to train towards this.
· Clean driving licence. Prepared to travel UK and abroad to assess / support the Supply base.
