Introduction
The Buyer will be responsible for creating and implementing a cross-functional purchasing strategy designed to actively contribute towards cost down, total cost optimisation, risk management, quality, and delivery improvements. The Buyer will source components for current and future model variants in line with pre-determined cost and timing targets.
Working Hours
The working hours for this role are 40 per week, based in the office:
- 08:00 - 16:30, Monday - Friday.

The Role in More Detail
- Developing and maintaining a competitive and reliable supply base that is capable of supporting all current production and new programme supply requirements.
- Creation and management of cross-functional commodity sourcing strategies which are designed to deliver a robust and sustainable supply base.
- Capacity and lead time analysis to ensure the current and future build requirements are achieved and protected by the supply base.
- Managing of all risk management activities, including supply contract agreements, designed to deliver a robust and sustainable supply base.
- Driving and leading all cost disciplines across the company through early supplier engagement, design to cost, and hidden cost initiatives in the infancy stages of new programmes.
- Accountable for the successful delivery of key performance objectives including material cost reductions (direct and indirect) in all current and future projects.
- Lead the enquiry process to select and nominate suppliers through the review of capability, cost, quality, and sustainability measures.
- Supply base management, relationship building, and issue resolution.
- Provide support to Design / Engineering / Manufacturing and QA departments to investigate and successfully implement new components, innovations, and technologies identified in the supply base research.
- Continuous seeking of measurable performance improvement opportunities.
- Representing the Purchasing department in cross-functional meetings, ensuring compliance with the purchasing processes ad recommending improvements to processes and ways of working to maximise effectiveness and efficiencies.
- Drive Cost Reduction activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in supplier management including supplier section, contract negotiations, and supplier performance management.
- Experience in delivering against key metrics and business-critical paths.
- Ability to communicate and influence a broad range of stakeholders.
- Fully conversant with MS Office software (e.g. complex Excel spreadsheets).
- CIPS or equivalent recognised qualification.

Dynamic, results-driven, and with a passion to succeed, the Buyer would be an integral part of the Purchasing department & provide support under a senior role, while developing the suppliers within their own portfolio to an ever higher level of achievement. Formulating Procurement Strategy, Supplier Development, benchmarking, and internal Metrics also form part of this exciting and challenging role.
Requires an innovative mindset, able to generate new ideas and translate them into tangible results.
