Why VEL Fit Chose the Nifty 210
VEL Fit transformed the way it services Velux windows by investing in a Nifty 210, saving time and cost while ensuring safe and efficient access to even the most difficult-to-reach windows.

The Nifty 210 from Niftylift speeds up access and enhances safe operation.
When it comes to installing, repairing, or servicing Velux windows, traditional scaffolding can often be more of a burden than a benefit—especially when jobs are quick but access is awkward. That’s why VEL Fit, one of the UK’s leading Velux window contractors, turned to Niftylift for a smarter solution.
Accessing the Inaccessible
VEL Fit’s need arose from a project requiring access to over 700 roofs to replace motors in a specific Velux flat-roof window. The catch? Each job only took around 30 minutes once at height—but erecting and dismantling scaffolding would add two extra days and cost up to £5,000 per site.
“Scaffolding just wasn’t viable for what we needed,” said Steve Wrieden, Director at VEL Fit. “We looked into access platforms and trialled a Nifty 170. While it got us to the right height, we needed more outreach—so we invested in the largest trailer-mount that Niftylift offers: the Nifty 210.”

The Nifty 210 is easy to manoeuvre and prepare.
The Ideal Solution: Nifty 210
The Nifty 210’s 21 m working height and 12 m outreach gave VEL Fit exactly what it needed—ample access without compromise.
“The 12 m outreach is often the deciding factor for our customers,” said Tom James, UK Sales Manager at Niftylift. “The Nifty 210 isn’t common in standard rental fleets due to its size, but that’s exactly what makes it so valuable for niche tasks like this.”
The machine’s motor mover allows it to be positioned without towing, while the 100-degree platform rotation and fully proportional controls mean it excels in hard-to-reach spaces. And thanks to its sub-3.5 tonne weight, it can be used on driveways and residential areas without causing damage.
Safety Without Compromise

The Nifty 210 is simple to operate with no impact on its surroundings.
Safety was central to VEL Fit’s decision. Every operator was trained through IPAF, and a dedicated health and safety consultant created method statements for the machine’s specific use.
“All our staff are trained and experienced,” said Steve. “It’s all about managing risk—making sure we balance safety with efficiency and cost.”
The Nifty 210’s 225 kg safe working load allows two operatives in the cage and one on the ground, ensuring effective teamwork on each job.
“There are many safety features built into every Niftylift product,” said Tom Hadden, Technical Sales Manager. “But operator training and awareness are just as important. We’re proud to see the professionalism shown by the VEL Fit team.”
Looking Ahead
With the Velux project now complete, VEL Fit isn’t shelving its Nifty 210. Instead, it launched a sister company, Giant Hire, offering Nifty 210 for hire with a trained operator.
“We just couldn’t find another platform that met all our needs,” said Steve. “It’s changed the way we work—and now we want others to benefit from it too. If you can’t reach it, you should hire a giant!”
