Introduction
The Maintenance Team Leader / Supervisor Role requires a strong leader with a can-do attitude to problem-solving. The ideal candidate must possess hands-on engineering skills.
The role requires an individual with proven management/team-leading abilities to drive a culture of effective preventative maintenance.
Working Hours
Working hours for this role will be 40 basic hours per week on the following shifts:
- 07.30 - 16.30 Monday – Thursday
- 07:30 - 13:30 Friday
Some on-call or out-of-hours working will be also required.

The Role in More Detail
- Ensure that all team operations meet Health and Safety, risk assessments, and safe systems of work requirements.
- Coaching, training, and development of the skills and competencies of the Maintenance team, apprentices, and associated stakeholders. Hold effective team member and contractor performance reviews, to drive continuous improvement in technician and contractor performance, to meet and exceed targets.
- Management and responsibility for the safe / efficient / cost-effective maintenance of the site's plant and equipment (including robotic / automated machinery / cells, CNC machine centres, cranes, welding machines / equipment, conventional machine tools / hand tools / racking).
- Management and responsibility for the safe / efficient / cost-effective maintenance and repair of jigs and fixtures hydraulic, pneumatic, and manual clamping systems. Note direct / core fixture repairs and improvements are part of the separate Manufacturing Engineering Departments' responsibility.
- Management and responsibility for the safe / efficient / cost-effective maintenance of the site's main infrastructure structure, including buildings, utilities, services, and welfare facilities (i.e. toilets / washroom etc).
- Downtime measurement, reporting, and expediting of all maintenance requirements to minimise downtime of plant and equipment. Implementation and reporting of OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) for measuring manufacturing productivity in relation to the plant and equipment used within the production process. Provide solutions / recommendation plans where performance is poor / unacceptable.
- Development and management of an effective planned, preventative, reactive, and remedial maintenance system including, the plant diagnostics / rectification procedure database. Comprehensive investigation of breakdowns, identifying root cause, corrective action, and preventative action / maintenance to improve machine uptime and site performance.
- Plan, co-ordinate, and lead all new and existing site installations of plant / machinery / equipment / services, movements, overhaul / upgrade, breakdowns, and servicing requirements / projects. Provide continuous improvement input into selecting new machines, processes, and factory developments. Support and assist in driving SMED-related projects.
- Effective management and control of all maintenance revenue spend, forecasting expenditure, and carrying out regular reviews of actual spending vs. allocated budgets. Management of maintenance-related sub-contractors. Reviewing and renegotiating servicing contracts. Requisitioning of parts and materials for best commercial cost sources.
- Deliver on Site and Engineering / Maintenance strategy and improvements. Continuously explore ways to improve. Cost-effective, value add Engineering performance to achieve excellence in operational efficiency and effectiveness using proven lean methodology and problem-solving tools. Housekeeping, workplace organisation, and 5’ s structure / practices to be fully endorsed and sustained.
- Develop departmental KPI’s to be reported at weekly Management Meetings to demonstrate effective containment, and corrective and preventative actions for unplanned maintenance. Building historical data in support of implementing effective OPM/ TPM activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or NVQ Level 4 in a relevant engineering discipline or served a full engineering indentured apprenticeship. Multi-skilled in both electrical and mechanical disciplines.
- Significant practical engineering experience including a supervisory role managing people.
- Experience with automated equipment / machinery, including CNC, automated/ semi-automated machines within a fabrication/welding environment.
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) in English.
- Experience in working to appropriate health & safety standards and regulations.
- Excellent computer skills (MS Office, CAD).
- Experience working with PLC-based control systems.
- Project Management experience.
- Knowledge of CMMS programs.
- Experience with Kaizen and Continuous Improvement Processes.
