Stores & Logistics Manager (Manufacturing - OEM) - Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire

The Stores & Logistics Management role is to effectively develop the Logistics strategy, procedures, team and resources. Value added processes / systems, stock handling / processing technologies, logistics related layout and equipment and suppliers, to achieve both effective and efficient stock control management and on time supply to internal manufacturing facilities / customers and external customers.

Main Tasks of the Role:

  • Maintain and develop a safe and effective logistics facility.
  • Achieve zero stock out, on time / damage free, effective presentation of stock supply to point of use at each production line / cell.
  • Hands on management and development of the logistics and stores functions as part of the operations management team, through equality of structured and agreed standards.
  • Measuring, reporting and managing key performance indicators.
  • Develop, audit and ensure systems and procedural compliance. Develop and streamline processes. Develop SOP and schedules of completion.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and transactions in all operations of the company's manufacturing system, including accurate goods in, stock transfer and stock investigation / adjustment systems.
  • Schedule and organise stock cycle checks, and main stock takes.
  • Develop and sustain A, B, C part classification supply, and common / unique organisational stock control structures. Minimise inventory levels. Eliminate and prevent internal causes for part shortages.
  • Supplier development of delivery schedules, recyclable / reusable packaging formats, and direct to line supply.
  • Maintain a high standard of maintenance and housekeeping, and work place organisation. Ensure all physical waste / refuse removal is segregated and efficiently controlled.
  • To support, implement and sustain continuous improvement through lean manufacturing techniques and philosophies throughout the complete logistics supply chain.
  • Development of daily stakeholder team meetings structured, effective and supported daily.
  • Organise and maintain safe loading of all shipments globally.

The essential qualities required for the Stores/Logistics Manager include:

  • Qualification in Manufacturing Engineering or Logistics Management to HNC standard minimum, or equivalent, and / or 5 years senior position in manufacturing logistics management. Competent in Microsoft office and MRP manufacturing software systems.

Interpersonal skills (Behaviour):

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including a good level of presentation skills (verbal & written), but focussed and summarised on a need to know basis where relevant.
  • Maintain a professional direct and indirect approach with all members of the company. Credibility at all levels within the operations business. Focussed on the management of logistics, while providing management support as requested, to other operations sectors.
  • Project Management. Excellent planning and man management skills.
  • Decision making based on overall business requirements and best practice. Able to work to tight timescales and under pressure, whilst maintain a calm, prioritised and structured approach to all tasks / issues.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, 'can do' approach that challenges and removes all issues, success / target driven and task orientated team player.
