Scheduler & Expeditor - Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire

Main Tasks of Job

Reporting to the Purchasing manager you will be responsible:

  • To expedite the material supply to Niftylift's production lines in order to achieve the weekly build plan or specific short notice demand, this should be achieved through the constant review of all external supplier schedules.
  • Assess the scheduled period delivery requirements against the NL Build Plan requirements & take proactive action to minimise Material shortage situations.
  • Review and deal with material shortages as & when they arise.
  • Advise material shortages to Niftylift production planning for amendment of the build plan in order to minimise disruption & maximise productive assembly & build of NL products.
  • Question/confirm & update (where necessary), the weekly delivery schedules with the supply base in order to meet NL lead times against production plans.
  • Conduct effective and assertive expediting to a senior level as required, to achieve delivery prior to requirement.  Maximise use of the supplier structure and transport systems to ensure on time delivery. Good communication skills & phone manner is essential.
  • Be aware of inventory levels across a number of key warehouses used by Niftylift in order to facilitate the seamless transfer of materials as and when required.
  • Report the weekly / monthly supplier performance (to become part of the supplier performance measurement) & individual vendor performance on the number of line shortages.
  • The top 3 worst offenders should be reported monthly to the Purchasing Manager for preventative actions along with the commodity buyer.
  • Work with the materials controller, develop and administer the external supply schedules. Develop a rolling schedule and Kanban supply system (external).
  • Identify the root causes of any line shortages, and communicate these to the purchasing manager, management team and commodity Buyers.  Advise preventative actions to avoid reoccurrence (e.g. develop supplier, implement supply contract, or change supplier).
  • Assess suppliers and monitor/publish/feedback delivery performance, for negotiation and decision making.
  • Run, report and update the 'short term shortage report', based on parts required to cover the following 3 weeks production.
  • Visit and audit suppliers where necessary to visually and physically see WIP.

Skills / Qualifications

Competence in all Microsoft packages is required & a good level of computer literacy to work with NL in house systems 'Infor MRP'  & 'QlikView' business intelligence software, where necessary training will be provided.


Candidates should be confident & of smart appearance to represent Niftylift when visiting, or receiving vendors. Working in an open plan office & within a small interactive team a sociable character is essential.
